HAMTRAGIC
Hamtragic is a movie filmed on location in Hamtramck, Michigan, which is a small city entirely within the borders of Detroit. Paradoxically, Detroit is one of the most segregated cities in the United States, but Hamtramck is one of the most diverse. One can see every nationality and cultural influence there. Hamtramck was once heavily Polish, and one can still see the Polish and Catholic influences there. Aaron Trudgeon and Janet Komp Hyson worked as a team on writing, editing, directing and producing Hamtragic. Gary Freeman and Kal-el provided secondary assistance. This movie was designed very much like a 50s horror movie, with suspense, decency, new ideas and a non-formulaic script. One of the hallmarks of this film is its extensive use of local talent.
Overview of the movie:
A new South American tribe was discovered
by accident. One of their medicinal plants was discovered by a drug cartel and a
new drug was made, which was later found to have strange side effects. The tribe
hated the incursion of the outside world, so they cursed the drug and
the urn in which it was placed. An unsuspecting professor was slipped
some of the drug by some creepy students. This caused the professor to
be possessed by a murderous demon, but only when the drug was taken.
The demon made the professor crave the drug and grew stronger with each
dose, but it needed to find the urn that came with the drug in order to
perform a ceremony to remain permanently in the body of the professor. Under the influence of the drug,
the professor had no idea what was happening but continued to crave
it. As the supply dried up, though, the search for the urn became
more desperate and crazed. (Approximate viewing time: 50 minutes.)

Hamtragic review by The Grim Ringler
"A fun, oft-times silly film, this is very well made for such a small production. Well directed, scored, and shot, this is one of those movies that has so much spirit and heart that you are willing to forgive the many bumps that private productions suffer."

Hamtragic review by Torc Press
"The film marches to the beat of it's own drummer. It's strangely hypnotic, and there are lots of interesting choices made throughout the filmmaking." - by Joseph Morris
